Information about Inkjet Paper
 |
Most people don't think twice about the paper they use in their inkjet printers. Most people use regular white copy paper with their inkjet and laser printers for use with the vast majority documents, even digital photos. However, copy paper is not designed to provide favorable print quality with inkjet printers. Without special finishes, an inkjet printer's output dries irregularly and is absorbed by the paper, leaving behind a dull, flat product.
The following inkjet facts help explain why your choice in paper can make drastic difference in the quality of your printer.
|
- Inkjet Printers generally work by spraying ink onto a paper or film to create images.
- Since they use a "wet" ink, they are more versatile and can easily produce color images.
- The number of "dots per inch" (DPI) that an ink-jet printer produces on paper tells a lot about the quality of the image that it can produce.
- Printers with a higher DPI generally deposit more ink on the paper and give finer quality images with greater detail and clarity.
- Many inkjet printers operate at 360 or 720 DPI. Some of the latest models offer 1440 DPI cabability.
- Since inkjet printers use a "wet ink" instead of a toner, the paper used needs to be capable of handling this type of ink without "bleeding" or "running".
- Papers used for inkjet printers also need to be quick-drying and offer good color contrast.
- By using paper specially formulated for use with inkjet printers, you can produce "photo-quality" images on many inkjet printers. Some inkjet papers actually have the look and feel of photographic paper.
- Surplus Inks inkjet papers and films are formulated to address these issues and help get improved performance from inkjet printers (as compared to using plain copy paper).
